Chao Yan
Lead Project Designer, Site Civil Engineering & Landscape Architecture
Mr. Yan joined PS&S in 1996 as a Project Engineer/Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) Designer for the Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor Site Civil Engineering Department. Mr. Yan has been responsible for a broad range of project designs including industrial facilities, commercial malls, residential developments and river revitalization. His extensive graduate research experience in traffic and transportation design has proven to be invaluable to PS&S on projects with highway geometric element design and major improvement strategy. Mr. Yan has excellent background knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil Engineering Design software in site planning, transportation, hydrology and hydraulics. He also has experience with Geographical Information System (GIS) programs, with which he has done various ego-referencing stream analysis and modeling projects.
Prior to joining the Site Civil Engineering Department at Paulus, Sokolowski and Sartor, Mr. Yan’s experience included traffic assignment and optimization by network modeling, geometric highway design, traffic signal design, and campus parking studies and facility designs. He has worked on transportation and transit related studies for the Maryland Department of Transportation and for the Washington, D.C. Metro.
Mr. Yan has experience coordinating with contractors, consultants and municipal authorities, as well as construction cost estimating, site inspections and resident engineering.
Mr. Yan acquired a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Jianxi Polytech University followed by a Master of Arts in Engineering Economics from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He also completed Transportation Graduate Studies at the University of Maryland and further achieved a Master of Science in Transportation Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
