THE OPPORTUNITY

PS&S was engaged to expand the four-star Doral Arrowwood Conference Center (completed by PS&S in 1983) with a new Learning Center. Designed into the sloped landscape, the Learning Center totals 110,000 square feet on three levels, and is accessed from adjacent parking and porte-cochere to a reception lobby overlooking a spectacular golf course view through the main open dining space.

 

THE CHALLENGE

Doral Arrowwood is nestled in 114 wooded acres at Anderson Hill Road, in the prestigious Town of Rye Brook, New York. The site is fairly tight for the proposed expansion, which must share the space with expanded guest rooms, the existing four-star resort, the signature golf course, and resident housing. The project required this new building to share in the hospitality amenities of reception, dining, and housing while allowing the new cutting-edge training center to maintain its own identity.

 

THE PS&S SOLUTION

The solution joined a corporation and Doral with a “Main Street” that linked the two with shared reception and check-in, bringing all three floors into the heart of the training experience. The design incorporates a full TV and recording studio with international connectivity, a trainer floor to build teamwork and the Pfizer culture, a 150-seat stepped amphitheater, 250- to 300-seat full-service dining, shared existing dining and kitchens, and high-technology classroom space with LCD, rear screen projection for conference use. All of these flexible conference spaces were linked electronically to a hub so that they could share networking and teaching.
