Extreme Surveying
PS&S survey services are providing control support to Henkels & McCoy during the installation of new power lines for the ACE between Lewis and Higbee substations. The whole project is about 5 miles long, with the installation of 234 single caisson structures and 17 Pyramax Super Structures.
Portions of this project are in the tidal marshlands that are accessible by boats only. To protect the sensitive ecological system and difficult site access, Henkels & McCoy is using helicopters to deliver all equipment, material, construction personnel, and surveyors to each new structure location by "long lining" (suspended from the helicopter the harness). Below is a video of the final piece dropping Pyramax structure onto caissons and bolting into place. This is not only a great project but also an adventure that surveyors love.
