Bordered by CitiField, LaGuardia Airport, and industrial businesses, Flushing Bay serves as a vital route for pleasure boats, ferries, and other vessels heading to the East River. Due to the buildup of decaying organic material from two major sewer outfalls nearby, the sediment required removal. The $200 million Flushing Bay cleanup project includes the dredging of more than 89,000-cubic-yards of sediment, upgrades to the sewer system, and restoration of wetlands along the shore.
PS&S professionals are working with O’Brien & Gere (OBG) and the NYC DEP to provide Construction Management services, overseeing the installation of 3.5+ acres of salt marsh wetlands, including 110,000 plugs of various wetland plants as well as erosion control and goose fencing. The new wetlands will filter the water and provide a habitat for wildlife. BTA staff is also responsible for the continued monitoring of the wetland installation and providing permit closure services post-installation.vide a low key gateway treatment seen when entering or leaving City
