FOOD PILOT PLANT
LOCATION: CENTRAL NJ
CLIENT: FOOD & NUTRITION
MARKET SECTOR: SCI-TECH
SIZE: 150,000 SF
THE OPPORTUNITY
A PS&S client acquired a Consumer Products Division and looked to PS&S for establishing a new home for the offices, labs, and pilot plant that originally resided at another location. After evaluating a few potential sites, the selection was based on location with an emphasis on retaining the people and talent of the Consumer Products Division.
PS&S provided full design and engineering services for a new 150,000 sf R&D facility. PS&S has been involved in all phases from the initial site selection through Basis of Design, Programming and Final Design for this facility.
THE CHALLENGE
One-third of the building will be comprised of office space, while the other portions of the facility will consist of laboratory space and a pilot plant where small-scale product research will be conducted. The new facility was specifically designed to be flexible and to support the client’s universal candy and gum development endeavors. Control over the odors to provide a public sensory tasting center was one of the many challenges. This resulted in three major building components wrapped around an outdoor courtyard.
THE PS&S SOLUTION
PS&S provided all architecture and engineering services under one roof, including site civil engineering, environmental, MEP, structural and interior design. This resulted in a seamless approach for the overall construction package. PS&S maintained an exceptional balance between creating a state-of-the-art facility with the necessary functionality and staying within an extremely tight budget.
