FORKED RIVER REST STOP

LOCATION: LACEY TOWNSHIP, MEW JERSEY

CLIENT: DNA ARCHITECTS

MARKET SECTOR: PUBLIC

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Garden State Parkway is recognized as an historic place. DNA Architects was charged with redesigning the aging Forked River Rest Stop. In an effort to prepare for consultation with regulatory agencies interested in historic preservation, DNA architects requested a report on historic aspects of the rest stop.

THE CHALLENGE

DNA Architects requested a thorough documentation of the rest stop that would satisfy the regulatory standards put in place by the Pinelands Commission for the mitigation of adverse effects upon historic resources. With approval necessary for the project to move forward, the recordation had to adhere to Level III Standards of the Historic American Buildings Survey.

THE SOLUTION

PS&S consulted with the client, the NJHPO, and the Pinelands Commission in order to produce a recordation report that would meet the agencies’ standards. The report includes written and photographic documentation of the building and provides discussion of the building’s history as a cultural resource along the Garden State Parkway. The report was submitted to the Pinelands Commission and promptly gained the approval needed to allow the project to move forward.
