THE OPPORTUNITY
PS&S was retained to provide site civil engineering and structural engineering services for the development of a new electric power substation. The substation was to be built on a developed site roughly 13.5 acres in size.
THE CHALLENGE
The project posed complex stormwater management challenges such as the need to attenuate the stormwater runoff from predevelopment to post development conditions, while allowing controlled discharge into the adjacent public right-of-way without impacts to the proposed substation improvements.
THE PS&S SOLUTION
PS&S designed a unique grading and stormwater management plan that accommodated the required proposed electrical substation improvements and improved the existing stormwater detention basin in such a way that satisfied the stringent regulatory stormwater management requirements without use of additional valuable site area.
Additional site civil engineering services provided included coordinating site layout of transmission and equipment pads and supports, prefabricated buildings, access driveways, parking area and ancillary site improvements. PS&S provided structural engineering services related to the design of equipment pads and supports, and proposed prefabricated buildings, in addition to providing coordination and support services during the regulatory permitting process.
