THE OPPORTUNITY
PS&S performed ASHRAE Level II Energy Audits for 24 Somerset County facilities. These facilities include Schools, Municipal Buildings, Department of Public Works Garages, Libraries, a Senior Center and Police Departments.
THE CHALLENGE
The facilities were located throughout the county and varied widely in age, size, condition, and type of energy use. The ASHRAE Level II audit procedure provided a framework for the evaluation.
THE PS&S SOLUTION
PS&S audited the electrical mechanical systems and equipment, analyzed utility bills, and interviewed operating and maintenance personnel. PS&S also verified the physical condition of the facilities and obtained operating schedules and occupancy levels and facility age, construction and capability.
A methodical evaluation was made of the building envelope, electrical, mechanical and control systems, and operational and mechanical practices. Energy use was used to develop an energy utilization index (EUI) and compared to similar facilities in a similar climate.
Based on the site visits and data analysis, Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) were developed and evaluated for payback and rate of return. Recommendations were included in reports and presentations prepared for the individual municipal facilities.
