THE OPPORTUNITY

Providing design services to support the renovation of 215,000 sf of Office and Laboratories including a new Warehouse.

 

THE CHALLENGE

Spectra Labs provides testing services for over 40,000 human patient test samples each day and currently operates the largest Hematology Lab in the US. It is a 24 hour /7 day operation and the renovation required phased construction that would allow the labs to operate without any significant shut down time.  A phased design and construction approach was developed to address this challenge.


THE PS&S SOLUTION

PS&S provided multi-discipline design services for the renovation of over 215,000 sf of Office/ Laboratory and Warehouse facilities. 

Initial phase involved the relocation/duplication of all the Administrative Offices and the Data Center. Once the offices were relocated, the lab renovation phase was executed.  A third phase involved the construction of a new warehouse, which required planning board approval. Moving the congested existing warehouse operations out of the Lab Building allowed the existing labs to be renovated. PS&S provided material and personnel flow diagrams to improve operational efficiency.

PS&S also provided the Process engineering for the lab utilities including DI water, CO2, UPS, Data, Nitrogen and wastewater systems. In addition to the Labs and offices, the program included a new Lobby, café, training rooms, locker rooms, loading docks, new electrical service to the site, new Emergency Generators and a new driveway with revised site circulation.

PS&S provided many consulting services including environmental, site civil engineering, survey, geotechnical, structural, mechanical, electrical, architectural and interior design all under one roof.
