DESIGNING FOR COLLABORATION IN EDUCATION PROJECTS

Teamwork is a key ingredient to success in today’s knowledge-based economy, and it is essential for 21st century learning environments to support this. Collaboration produces well-documented benefits in both workplace and learning environments (Adler, et al, 2011) (Bush, 2015). It has been shown to lead to more effective problem solving, improved self-awareness, and an increase in employee satisfaction (Nixon, 2014). Google and Apple are prime examples of companies whose work environments are designed to reflect their collaborative culture. As such, there is an increased focus on collaboration as both a teaching tool within the classroom as well as a generator of ideas outside of the classroom.
