PS&S is excited to share that our current project in Scarsdale, NY, for which our Senior Architectural Historian Emily Cooperman, MS, PhD has provided testimony, has been featured in The Wall Street Journal.
The article describes the local debate as to whether a modern house in the Village of Scarsdale in Westchester County designed by New York architect Simon B. Zelnik can be demolished by the property owner. The debate on the property in question, 76 Birchall Drive, involves whether Zelnik was a master architect.
Testifying for the property owner, Cooperman presented a case that demonstrated that, while Zelnik was a successful architect of the period, he was never considered a master architect during his lifetime or since, and, further, that the house has been very heavily altered and no longer reflects a historic design.
